Artist's Description
No longer in use, the Fenwick Island lighthouse served ships travelling along the coasts of Delaware and Maryland. Before modern navigation instruments, ships hugged shorelines to keep their bearing. Lighthouses allowed ships to find their location along the coast and warned them away from shoals and shallow depths.
