Description
An American flamingo seems startled by my camera. The only species of flamingo found in North America, their only area of habitat in the U. S. is Florida.
It was thought that all wild Flamingos in Florida were hunted to exitinction on the 1800's, when their feathers were prized as plumes in ladies' hats. However, in recent years, some wild flamingos have been sighted in that state.
The flamingo in this fine art photograph was 'sighted' among a flock of American flamingos kept at the Salisbury zoo, which is located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
