Description
Ospreys are beautiful fish feeding hawks found along rivers and estuaries in North America and throughout the world.
In the 1960s, ospreys in North America were heading toward extinction. The insecticide DDT caused osprey egg shells to be too thin, resulting in few births. With the banning of DDT, ospreys have made a remarkable recovery.
Since ospreys are at the top of the food chain, the health of this water fowl is an indication of the overall health of the marsh lands where they live.
