Description
Popcorn vendors are a common site along the streets of India. The corn is popped in a fascinating way. The bottom of a pan is filled with sand, and the corn kernals are placed on top of the sand. As the heat from a wood fire filters through from below, the sand creates an even heat for the kernals of corn to pop. Most amazingly, the popcorn never has a trace of sand in it. And it is delicious!
The setting for this street scene is one of the great spiritual cities of India named Rishikesh. I love the way the smoke fills the air, creating an almost dreamy mood in this fine art photograph.
