Description
Vishnuprayag is the confluence of the Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers. As I descend the many steps to this powerful confluence, I am greeted by the overwhelming roar of the churning waters of these two mighty rivers as they collide on their rapid descent through the Himalaya mountains.
According to the Vedas, the ancient sage Narada meditated along the banks of Vishnuprayag and was granted the boon of the "darshan" or sight of Lord Vishnu.
In India, "prayags" or confluences are considered spiritual locations that are most conducive for meditation and bathing. The prayags of the Ganges river and its tributaries are considered the most auspicious of these confluences.
I love the way the two different colors of the rivers churn and collide in this fine art photograph.
