Description
During the Chincoteague Pony Swim, wild horses from Assateague Island are swum across a bay to Chincoteague Island. Young ponies are culled from the herd and sold at auction for the benefit of the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department. This culling helps to maintain population control for the wild herd. Although the swim only lasts for about ten minutes, it is a major tourist attractionin the Delmarva area.
